Late in the afternoon, we put up the tent in the middle of the sands. As soon as this was done, we went out for supper. We were all hungry and the food smelled good. After a wonderful meal, we went back to the beach. It was about 9:00pm and we were sure to spend the whole night in the open. It was dark outside, but we could see the youth sit around the campfire. Some of them were telling stories, while others were singing.
Gentle breezes touched and stroke my face, which made me feel the breath of the sea. We walked along the seashore and looked up to the sky. It was star-spangled, like the diamonds twinkling on a background of black velvet. We were intoxicated when suddenly I noticed that a shooting star scratch the sky. We screamed with excitement, but forgot to make a wish in time. Fortunately the second meteor appeared soon after, and we seized the opportunity to make our wish the moment we saw it.
Some time later, I felt tired so I crept into my tent. Hearing the great waves of the sea, I got far closer to the world of nature than anyone did. The sands were comfortable; therefore I slept soundly that night.
Waken by the seafowl in the early morning; I realized that it was time for us to leave. However, I still imagined the island to be a sort of paradise where the sun always shines. Life there was simple and good. Nothing can be compared with the clean atmosphere, the closeness to nature, and the gentle pace of living. |
